This past weekend, there was a tournament in Stowe, Vermont, the Vermont Stars Summer Classic. The team I played for during the winter full season was the host, and I played for the NEWHL All Stars, my summer team. This was our schedule :
Game One, NEWHL vs. Kick Ice
Game Two, NEWHL vs. Longhorns
Game Three, NEWHL vs. Ice Storm
Game Four (Semi-Finals), NEWHL vs. Ice Storm
Game One, NEWHL vs. Kick Ice.
I got to the game over an hour before, so I could watch the Vermont Stars play the NH Knights, a team that our NEWHL team plays scrimmages against. Vermont ended up winning 3-1, and I was soon ready to play our game. I knew almost every single girl on the Kick Ice team, and two of my cousins were on it. We had played Kick Ice in the first tournament, and didn't play as hard as we could, we only scored 1 goal during the first 18 minute half. I had an assist on that goal, Casey Levelielle scored the goal. But after the zamboni got off the ice, we scored a quick four goals ( I scored one (: ), and held Kick Ice to none, the final score 5-0. After the game, I talked to all the girls I knew, and got changed quickly, so I could see my friends from the Stars.
I stayed with Arushi, a girl on my team, that night, and our whole team had a cook out, and stayed outside until midnight in the field outside the motel.
The next morning, most of the players went for a bike ride (our motel rented out bikes), along the bike path, and we went about 12 miles.
Game Two, NEWHL vs. Longhorns.
This definitely was not our best game. We scored one goal, but then the Longhorns ended up tying it. I had an assist, and we finally came out with the 4-1 win. Two of my friends, Logan and Elana, were on the Longhorns, so I got to see them.
Game Three, NEWHL vs. Ice Storm.
This, we knew, was going to be the hardest game, and we ended up tying it, 1-1. My *best friend was on the Ice Storm, and she was on my Stars team last year. This was probably one of the funnest games I have EVER played in, and I ended up scoring our lone goal, the first of the game, halfway into the second half. After the game, I talked to *Aly, who was on the Ice Storm, and then headed back to the hotel for the night.
Game Four, Semi Finals; NEWHL vs. Ice Storm. Again.
It was a rematch of the night before, but we knew this game would be far more intense than the night before. They ended up scoring the goal, but we got it back, when I screened the goalie and Sophia scored from the point. We got a 3-1 lead, until they came back and tied it, forcing us into overtime. We ended up losing, but it was a good game. It was our last game as a full team.
After the game, I went with Aly to her Championship game, where they were playing the Vermont Stars. The Ice Storm were really tired from their game against us two hours before, and they ended up losing in a shoot out to the Stars.
Despite the fact we didn't make it to the finals, this was probably one of the funnest weekends of my life. For all the girls who play out there;Just keep playing, keep working hard, no matter what people say. If you think you can do something, you can, and you will. Don't worry about what people say or think about you, just be yourself, play your game, and keep playing hard, with a smile (:
